Sri Madvirat Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Swamy Biography
SWAMI SRI VEERABRAHMENDRA
A Monograph on Pothuluru Veerabrahmendra Swamy
Ahead of Times
Superstitious beliefs and meaningless customs had no place in the way of life of Veerabrahmam. His attitude towards women was worth-mentioning. He abandoned the stupid custom of child marriages. Unless a girl attained puberty, he maintained, she should not be married. As a matter of fact, Govindamma was a grown - up girl when he married her. There was no sanction for such marriages in those days in the families of Hindu Brahmins and Viswabrahmins. He broke the convention and took a forward step. The bold step, of course, has now been legalised by the Government.
Veerabrahmam was always ahead of times. In this respect, Vemana alone stands comparison to him. It is, therefore, necessary to compare and contrast the activities and concepts of both the saint-poets.
