The Musings of Mahayoga
The term Yoga, in its wider sense, means the union of individual soul with the Universal Soul. To achieve this objective, the devotee has to practise both mental and physical exercises in Yoga. The body is kept in a fixed posture for spiritual worship and practice of abstract contemplation. The Yoga sastra of Patanjali lays down several principles of mental and physical disciplines.
The basic principle of Yoga, according to Patanjali, is control of the mind (Yogah chitta vritti nirodhah). Mind has mainly three states - conscious, unconcious and subconscious. It is in the sub-conscious state that one gets dreams etc. Mind has the controlling power on the physical conditions of the body.
The ultimate goal of a yogi is to achieve total liberation of the mind by getting the Supreme Soul manifested through austere practices of Yoga.
Veerabrahma Yogi had a clear knowledge of the Yoga sastra and put it into practice in his own way of perception.
In his ‘Jeevaikya Bodha Kalajnanam’ (from P. 151 to 273 first edition) he embarks upon the task of bringing about a synthesis among several systems Yoga sastra practiced by him.
The very title of the text is meaningful and connotes how the individual soul unites with the Supreme Soul.
The creation of-the universe, the elements, the human body, its constitution, the nine apertures like nostrils etc., the five senses like skin etc., the internal and external implements for human thinking and acting (Jnana and Karma Indriyas) the six wheels like Adhara, Swadhishtana etc. inside the body, the three orbits of fire, sun and moon (Agni, Surya and Chandra Mandates), the 72,000 arteries and veins of which the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna play a prominent role are explained in detail in this work. The Sushumna vein is otherwise called ‘Brahma nadi’, which spreads down from the anus right upto the skull with amazing brightness When initiated through proper practice, an astonishing serpent power called ‘Kundalini’ awakenes and makes the Supreme Soul called ‘Hamsa’ or ‘Paramatma’ appear before the devotee like the thousand petalled Lotus called ‘Sahasrara’.
To reach this state of mind Veerabrahma yogi suggeets four ways of Yoga - 1) Mantrayoga 2) Laya Yoga 3) Hatha Yoga and 4) Raja Yoga.
